The crofting piece is crested using the accounts of crofters from around the Isle of Lewis & Harris. Both indigenous islanders and folk who have relocated to the island and taken on a croft were involved with the project, this gave an interesting dynamic and drew out different perspectives and experiences, yet still held many shared narratives!
The music for this piece was created more as textual layers as there are multiple synths created from the field recordings I took from around the island. This were then translated through Map data of factors that impact crofting - soil type, rainfall, wind and agricultural viability. These run through the piece and are impacted by the voices of the people speaking as well which adds further depth and shape to the piece.
