Undertaken with weavers on the Isle of Lewis & Harris. All weavers were either independent Official Harris Tweed weavers or weaver employed through the mills on the island under the Harris Tweed Authority, who I also spoke with. The piece shares the stories of these people and this treasured cloth, its meaning to the place and the connection they have to it. The music for this piece was created in various ways but the story is shared in three sections starting with the present, then past and then future. Each section has a synth I have created using the field recordings of the looms appropriate to each period and the melody is created from the patterns of Harris tweed.
I particularly love the moment the future melody comes in, the pattern and colours translated into midi have made for a cheerful and hopeful sounding flow under the stories being told by this community.
